As expected, there was considerable damage to public infrastructure. Damage to infrastructure reached $142 million USD (Mercado et al., 1996) as of a month after the start of the eruption (see below table)

This later increased with subsequent lahars and mudflows taking out bridges and road supports culminating an additional 1 billion pesos (37 million USD) (Mercado et al., 1996).
