When there is sufficient ash it can prove uneconomic for the land to resume pasture use. In most of these cases the land can then be reused for some other purpose such as forestry.
These recommendations provided are based on observations from Mt. St. Helens 1980 and Ruapehu 1995-96 eruptions and therefore may only be applicable for temperate environments.
