NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS VOLCANO OBSERVATORY DAILY UPDATE
U.S. Geological Survey
Monday, July 17, 2023, 12:01 PM ChST (Monday, July 17, 2023, 02:01 UTC)
Report prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey.
AHYI SEAMOUNT (VNUM #284141)
20°25'12" N 145°1'48" E, Summit Elevation -259 ft (-79 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW
No evidence of eruptive activity was detected on underwater pressure sensors near Wake Island (1,410 miles east of Ahyi) and no activity was observed in Satellite data over the past day. A seismic station and a seismoacoustic station on Saipan recorded no notable signals.
There are no local monitoring stations near Ahyi Seamount, which limits our ability to detect and characterize volcanic unrest there. We will continue to monitor available remote hydrophonic, seismic, and satellite data closely.
