HAWAIIAN VOLCANO OBSERVATORY INFORMATION STATEMENT
U.S. Geological Survey
Monday, November 18, 2024, 11:10 AM HST (Monday, November 18, 2024, 21:10 UTC)
The partial outage of the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) monitoring network that began just before 7:30 a.m. HST today, November 18, was resolved around 10:30 a.m. The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory monitoring network has been restored and HVO is fully monitoring all Hawaiian volcanoes. The temporary outage was related to a local power outage in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. HVO data presented to the public may continue to be slow for the next day or so as our system downloads the instrumental data that could not be transmitted during the temporary partial outage this morning.
HVO continues to monitor Hawaiian volcanoes closely and continues to issue updates on a regular schedule.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is one of five volcano observatories within the U.S. Geological Survey and is responsible for monitoring volcanoes and earthquakes in Hawaiʻi and American Samoa.
