Each of the U.S. Volcano Observatories send notices independently. When an observatory has active volcanoes (usually AVO and HVO), they send daily updates, otherwise updates are less frequent.

My Notifications

Volcano notifcations are sent by volcano observatory staff using the Hazard Notification System (HANS). Search for current or past notices here.

Standard Notifications

There are two categories of standard notifications, event responses and scheduled updates.

Event responses are notices sent in response to volcanic activity or other conditions that are unscheduled. Notice types are: Volcano Activity Notification, Status Report and Information Statement.

Scheduled updates are sent daily, weekly or monthly depending on volcanic activity and each observatory's desires.

Additional Notifications

The daily elevated volcano summary is a report of active volcanoes in the U.S. with a summary of any recent activity. This is separate from daily updates sent by volcano observatories and also independent of any selected volcanoes.

Most users should not select this. A VONA is simply one of the event responses (Volcano Activity Notification) reformatted for aviation use. VONAs may not be sent when an event does not include an airborne component (such as a lava flow).

My Volcanoes

Add Specific Volcanoes

During times of inactivity, observatories publish notices that are not specifically linked to a volcano. If you choose specific volcanoes you will not receive some notices (which are almost always scheduled updates).
