AVO Great Sitkin ORANGE/WATCH - Slow eruption of lava continues at Great Sitkin Volcano.

Feb 10, 2025 21:47 - Lava continues to erupt slowly in the summit crater of Great Sitkin Volcano. Seismicity has been quiet over the past day. Clouds blocked views of the volcano in web camera and satellite images. The current eruption of Great Sitkin Volcano began with a single explosive event in May 2021. The ongoing eruption of lava at the summit began shortly afterward, in July 2021. The volcano is monitored using local seismic and infrasound sensors, satellite data and web cameras, and regional infrasound and lightning networks.

AVO Spurr YELLOW/ADVISORY - Shallow earthquake activity continues beneath Mount Spurr.

Feb 10, 2025 21:47 - Unrest continues at Mount Spurr, with numerous small, shallow volcanic earthquakes detected beneath the volcano over the past day. Currently, the earthquakes are being located under the Crater Peak vent as well as under the summit of Mount Spurr. Clear views of the volcano showed no unusual activity over the past day. Airborne gas measurements from the Spurr summit and the Crater Peak vent collected on Friday February 7, show no significant changes in gas output from the volcano. Sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide gas are similar to background levels measured in previous ...

Feb 10, 2025 19:34 - Activity Summary:  Kīlauea summit eruption paused as of February 4. A new eruptive episode may begin within the next 3 days in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.Episode 8 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption ended abruptly at 7:23 p.m. HST on February 4 after about 21.5 hours of eruptive activity. Kīlauea's current eruption in Halemaʻumaʻu crater within Kaluapele (the summit caldera) began on December 23, 2024. There have been 8 episodes of lava fountaining separated by pauses in activity. All eruptive activity remains within Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. No ...

NMI Ahyi Seamount YELLOW/ADVISORY - Unrest continues. A plume of discolored water was seen on February 1. Minor activity detected in geophysical data.

Feb 6, 2025 22:04 - Unrest at Ahyi Seamount continues. Minor activity from the direction of Ahyi was detected in hydroacoustic array data at Wake Island on February 3 and 5. A satellite image showed a plume of discolored water in the vicinity of Ahyi on February 1, indicating possible submarine activity. Similar, weak activity at Ahyi Seamount has been observed in satellite imagery off and on extending back to August 5, 2024. There are no local monitoring stations near Ahyi seamount, which limits our ability to detect and characterize volcanic unrest there. We will continue to monitor ...

Feb 6, 2025 20:52 - Seismicity beneath Mauna Loa's summit and upper-elevation flanks has been low over the past month; approximately 65 small-magnitude earthquakes (most below M1.5) were detected, which is expected for the post-eruption phase of this volcano and similar to the previous month.Data from Global Positioning System (GPS) instruments on Mauna Loa showed only continued minor inflation near the summit as the volcano recovers from the 2022 eruption and magma replenishes the reservoir system. Gas and temperature data from a station on Mauna Loa's Southwest Rift Zone show that H2S ...

Jan 30, 2025 03:31 - Strong northwesterly winds in the vicinity of Katmai and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes have picked up loose volcanic ash erupted during the 1912 Novarupta-Katmai eruption and are carrying it to the southeast. The National Weather Service has issued a SIGMET for this low-level event and suggests that the maximum cloud height is 4,000 ft (1.2 km) above sea level. This phenomenon is not the result of recent volcanic activity and occurs during times of high winds and dry snow-free conditions in the Katmai area and other young volcanic areas of Alaska.
Jan 29, 2025 02:01 - The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) equipment that transmits real-time seismic data from stations in the Okmok volcano monitoring network has experienced significant degradation over the past several days. A few channels are still being transmitted but are not sufficient to establish that the volcano is at a typical background level. AVO estimates that the outage will likely last several weeks or longer. As a result, AVO is unable to (1) assess whether this volcano may be building towards an eruption and (2) quickly confirm or dismiss reports of activity.Because this ...
