NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS VOLCANO OBSERVATORY DAILY UPDATE
U.S. Geological Survey
Sunday, January 15, 2023, 8:38 AM ChST (Saturday, January 14, 2023, 22:38 UTC)

Report prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey.

AHYI SEAMOUNT (VNUM #284141)
20°25'12" N 145°1'48" E, Summit Elevation -449 ft (-137 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

No indication of eruptive activity at Ahyi Seamount was detected over the last day, although the submarine eruption there may be continuing. Underwater pressure sensors at Wake Island did not detect explosion signals from the direction of the volcano, and no activity was observed in satellite imagery.

There are no local monitoring stations near Ahyi Seamount, which limits our ability to detect and characterize volcanic unrest there. We will continue to monitor available remote hydrophonic, seismic, and satellite data closely.
