NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS VOLCANO OBSERVATORY DAILY UPDATE
U.S. Geological Survey
Wednesday, January 11, 2023, 9:10 AM ChST (Tuesday, January 10, 2023, 23:10 UTC)
Report prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey.
AHYI SEAMOUNT (VNUM #284141)
20°25'12" N 145°1'48" E, Summit Elevation -449 ft (-137 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW
Underwater pressure sensors at Wake Island are back online, after having been out for several days. No signals consistent with possible explosions from Ahyi Seamount were detected since communications were restored, and no activity was observed in satellite views.
There are no local monitoring stations near Ahyi Seamount, which limits our ability to detect and characterize volcanic unrest there. We will continue to monitor available remote hydrophonic, seismic, and satellite data closely.
