<headline>Cascade Range Weekly Update</headline>
<description>Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range of Oregon and Washington are at normal levels of background seismicity. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State; and Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry Volcano, and Crater Lake, in Oregon.

Recent Observations: Activity at all Cascade volcanoes remained at background levels this past week. Several seismometers picked up lightning and thunder from electrical storms passing through the Mount St. Helens region in the early morning of 07/20/2012, but volcano seismicity remained at background levels. Field crews worked at Mount St. Helens, Mount Hood, Medicine Lake, Mount Lassen and Mammoth Mountain this week, and preparations are underway for more work at Mount St. Helens, Mount Hood, Mount Rainier and Crater Lake in the next week.

The U.S. Geological Survey Cascades Volcano Observatory and the University of Washington continue to monitor the Washington and Oregon volcanoes closely and will issue additional updates and changes in alert level as warranted.
