Installing Acoustic-Flow Monitor at Popocatépetl Volcano, Mexico
Photograph by A. Lockhart in May 1997

At this seismic station on the flank of Popocatépetl Volcano in Mexico, USGS and Mexican scientists worked together to install a new tiltmeter to monitor the volcano's deformation and an acoustic-flow monitor to detect the passage of a lahar. These and other monitoring instruments and data-acquistion systems were installed during Popocatépetl's recent unrest.
