USGS geologist describes the potential lahar hazard at Mount Rainier to about 30 members of the Pierce County, Washington, Explorer Search & Rescue Unit. The volunteers spent a weekend in September 1998 learning about volcano hazards and a USGS-designed lahar-warning system as they helped to prepare sites for 10 acoustic-flow monitors.
