The U.S. Geological Survey has a field office in the Mammoth Community Water District building in Mammoth Lakes to facilitate monitoring of the geologic unrest in Long Valley caldera and along the Mono-Inyo Craters volcanic chain. The field office will serve as the operational base for USGS monitoring activities and the primary location where real-time monitoring data can be analyzed. During a period of intense unrest, a USGS representative will also work at an Emergency Operation Center in Mammoth Lakes or Bridgeport to provide information about the status of activity and potential hazards and help coordinate response activities.
